Tonight was the first Full Council Meeting of the year at the town hall.
Whilst rightly much of the discussion and debate was centered on the recent floods here in Stockport. I was proud to second a motion proposed by Cllr Christine Carrigan calling on the council to publicly support the proposed Employment Rights Bill and call on the three MPs from across our borough to support the bill in parliament.
Whilst the Government can create laws, it is our trade unions who stand up for workers up and down the country every day. This bill strengthens workers rights to organise and join a union.
The motion passed tonight despite the opposition from one Councillor showing that we as a council recognise the importance of our workers and their rights.
