This Thursday, it was Full Council meeting at Stockport Council, one of the motions called for the the Greater Manchester Pension Fund to divest from Weapons Companies.
Despite passionate and strong speeches from members from 3 different parties supporting this stance, the council chose to water down this ask to just call for transparency.
I understand that the world we live in is changing, but profiteering from war only makes the world less safe and removes opportunity, shelter and food from the poorest in our society. We need to invest in making the world more stable by tackling the climate emergency and ensure that healthcare, food and education is available to all.
Thank you to the Manor residents who reached out on this important issue, I am dissapointed we did not get the result you all asked for but this is not the end.
