Last night was the Central Area Committee where we along with the councillors from Brinnington & Stockport Central, Davenport & Cale Green and Edgeley undertook decisions and scrutiny on behalf of our residents.
We had asked for a report on road safety and traffic on St Mary’s Way and its feeder roads, including Hall Street, however this was not able to come to last night’s meeting, but will come to next month’s.
We also had a good discussion with Network Rail, the council and Avanti about the future both long and short term of the train station.
We received an update from the local police and fed some of our concerns to them.
We approved the final orders for the works at the Fingerpost Junction, Hempshaw Lane and Marple Road.
We held the Lib Dem administration to account on the way they are introducing car park charges on currently free carparks. Whilst none of the ones in Manor have been chosen this time, the one on Hallam Street has the potential to really impact those residents on Nangreve and Borrowdale if the cars are displaced. But more than that it sets a bad precedent where the decision can be made without any consideration of the consequences. We are continuing to fight this.
We have still not been given our briefing on the changes to the bins, we have no more information than on the public website but as soon as we do we will answer any questions we have been sent.
