Last night at the Communities and Transport Scrutiny I challenged the Lib Dem administration on thier assesment that our parks and greenspaces are 97% “Good”.
Whilst we have some stunning parks in our ward and despite the best efforts of the team on the ground, far too much has been left to decay.I used Woodbank Park as my example with it being the largest park in the borough. I raised the lack of mowing, the lack of general maintenance and the issue of the play area, which despite the money being allocated back in 2019 and us being constantly promised it will be done this summer, we have yet to see any idea of designs or do the workshops with local children.
But these issues go wider than Woodbank, all 5 of our parks are a shadow of thier former selves, Councillor Sue Glithero, Manor Ward, Councillor Laura Clingan, Manor Ward and I will continue to fight to get our fair share and ensure that the parks offer the right balance of leisure, access to play equipment, access to nature and provide biodiversity.
Also at the meeting we I raised the issue of Accessible Play equipment, including a wheelchair swing, which we do not have a single one in the borough. I also raised the need to work harder and faster on road safety, particularly on roads such as St Mary’s Way.
