This was a very important decision at a very busy central area committee.
Road safety is such a key part of ensuring the area we live in is not only sustainable but also enjoyable.
Having a 40mph road through the middle of the town just doesn’t make sense in 2025, many other councils like Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh are making strides to remove all of theirs.
Making St Mary’s Way 30mph will not solve all of the issues, but there is a proven link between reducing speed and reducing road incidents.
Add to that our call for red light and speed enforcement cameras we will hopefully be in a much better position.
We hope to hear back soon on this request so watch this space.
