Despite not enjoying public speaking, there are some things that are too important to be left unsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
<\/a>Tonight I was really proud to second “Motion for Change: Together Against Violence Towards Women and Girls in Stockport” proposed by Claire Vibert, Labour Party<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This motion for change was based on the excellent work done by Women’s Aid<\/a> and looks to empower Stockport Council to address the root causes of VAWG and ensure survivors can access specialist support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As men, we have to reflect on the fact that 93% of violence against women and girls is perpetrated by men, it is not a womens issue but a societal issue caused by men. We must be active allies and call out mysoginistic behaviour in all its forms, we must not dismiss it as banter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The recent Netflix Drama “Adolescence” highlights a growing and concerning movement that is promoted to our boys and young men, as a Dad of two boys this is terrifying, but something we must stand against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are not going to eridicate misogyny or viloence against women and girls without removing the systimatic inequalities that still exist in our society, we must ensure that women have equal representation on decision making bodies, from parliment and councils to board rooms and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The final sobering thought is to point you to Jess Phillips MP’s now annual remembrance of women killed by men in the last 12 months, untill there are no names to read out there is work to be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n https:\/\/www.whiteribbon.org.uk\/…\/fa6znsr4p2bg4wzm77dba1…<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
