Grief changes everything

Grief changes everything.

Losing my dad at 13 was one of the most defining moments of my life. At the time, I couldn't have imagined anything positive coming from it. But losing him, and the way my Mum held us together afterwards, shaped the values I try to live by today as a dad, a husband, a colleague and a councillor.

That's why I'm fundraising for Child Bereavement UK. They offer direct support to children and young people affected by grief, with no waiting lists and no referrals. For a child trying to make sense of losing someone close, that immediacy matters.

To raise money for their work, I'm taking on two challenges over the next few weeks: the Great Manchester Half Marathon at the end of May, and the four-day Tour of Tameside in June, I have been training for the last 12 months for these. I've paid for my own places, so every penny donated goes directly to the charity.

If you're able to donate, anything at all would be appreciated. And if you can't, please share this post or the link to Child Bereavement UK with anyone you think might need to know the support is there.

Thank you.
