In March, the Stockport College Student Equalities Council presented to the Children and Families Scrutiny Committee, setting out their priorities and the issues they face here in Stockport. One of those discussions was about public transport, and it was so insightful that I committed to arranging a meeting with TfGM so the students could raise these points directly.
After some coordinating of diaries around exams and elections, that meeting happened this week. Two senior leaders from TfGM met with the students, and the students did not disappoint.
They highlighted both the positives and the negatives of the Bee Network and gave some really in-depth examples of how it could be improved. The students particularly recognised the commitment Andy Burnham made by funding travel for 16 to 18 year olds, and they described the freedom it has given them.
Thank you to Bee Network and the College for making time for these important conversations, and to the students for representing their peers so well.
And of course, on the way to the meeting, the opportunity to pick up some casework could not be missed. This overhanging growth will be cut back as soon as possible.
