Last night at Full Council the Lib Dems confirmed they had scrapped the order that made it an offence not to pick up after your dog in Stockport's parks. As of today, there's nothing to stop people leaving it behind on the paths and grass where our children play.
Labour brought this order in back in 2018 because we like all residents recognised dog mess in our parks is unhygienic and antisocial. The Lib Dems' excuse last night? Not enough evidence. Have they actually walked through a Stockport park?
They claim they consulted on it. I couldn't find a single post about it on the council's Facebook or X, it was tucked away in a corner of the council website. You can't hide a consultation and then say nobody had anything to say, they didnt even ask councillors.
It's not just the mess either. The order kept dogs out of the play areas in our parks and limited how many dogs one person could walk at a time. All gone, without a fight.
Most dog owners are brilliant and will keep picking up regardless. But the Lib Dems have just thrown away the only tool the council had to deal with the few who don't.
This is an administration that's lost touch with what residents actually care about. If dog mess is a problem in your local park, let me know. They want evidence, so let's give them some.
