Last night was the delayed area committee meeting.

As usual it was a very interesting evening, the highlight as always being listening to our community groups as they apply for funding.

Last night Manor Ward agreed to fund a specialist LGBTQIA+ mental health support service, a community football outreach programme for men and the wonderful Offerton Community Cafe.

As usual it was a very interesting evening, the highlight as always being listening to our community groups as they apply for funding.

Last night Manor Ward agreed to fund a specialist LGBTQIA+ mental health support service, a community football outreach programme for men and the wonderful Offerton Community Cafe.

We had a briefing with the local police at which I raised the issues of home burglary which seems to be on the rise and vandalism at Woodbank Hall. As always it is important to report all incidents to the police via 999 or 101 as appropriate.

We also discussed the issue of portable BBQs in our green spaces in this hot weather and I proposed a resolution to ask retailers to remove them from their shelves. This was agreed by the committee.

As the roads in the Battersby Estate are due to be adopted by the council very shortly Councillor Laura Clingan, Manor Ward and have been working with the highways team to make sure the relevant traffic regulations are in place to ensure the estate has safe access. These were approved at committee last night.

Finally I was asked a public question regarding my ongoing work to increase the size of some of the litter bins in Woodbank Park. The questioner was unsure it was necessary. As someone who uses the park almost daily it is clear to me, and backed up by photographs and reports that far too often some of the bins fill up between their emptying cycles. It is a no brainer for me to increase their capacity and keep our beautiful parks clean.

As always please get in touch with any issues, I can be emailed, messages or via WhatsApp.
