Over the weekend I along with many other Labour Councillors and former Councillors signed an open letter to the Prime Minister.

From my discussion last month with him, I know the Prime Minister is a decent man who wants to improve the lives of all the people in our country. But the Labour Party is bigger than one person and when one person becomes a distraction from us being able to implement the change we need in our country, then we have to act.

Despite what other parties will say, Britain is not broken, but it is unbalanced and unfair. This Labour Government has done a number of excellent things in the last 2 years, from the biggest uplift in workers rights for a generation, to the recent renters reform act and there is much more to come.

However the redistribution of wealth has to be faster, we have to lift our most deprived communities out of poverty, we need to provide quality and affordable housing for all and we need to stop the massive extraction of profits from our public services, especially our NHS.

For our communities and those who cannot wait a few more months now is the time.
