ROAD SAFETY AROUND OUR SCHOOLS AND NEIGHBOURHOODS
ROAD SAFETY AROUND OUR SCHOOLS AND NEIGHBOURHOODS
Improving road safety is one of our priorities here in Manor and we look for every opportunity to use the small amount of ward funding we get, but also push for larger works to be done by the council.
We asked the highways team to arrange a visit and lesson to Banks Lane Juniors to enable the children to learn about the dangers of speed and how they can help keep themselves safe as pedestrians, passengers and future drivers. Councillor Sue Glithero, Manor Ward and I attended the first session this morning delivered by the fantastic road safety team from the council, it was a fantastic lesson and we hope the children are able to take away some good learnings from it. The highlight was using the speed gun out on Hempshaw Lane.
We also secured funding to implement a 20mph zone on the estate around Knypersly Avenue, this went through consultation and is now in its final legal phase before being implimented. The consultation was overwhelmingly positive, we did hear the responses from the few people against, the concerns particually around emergency services will continue to be considered as we look at future changes.
Finally we are glad to report that the Charles Street and Christie Street will be resurfaces very soon, this has been something we have been asking for as it is both dangerous and damaging in its current state. We look forward to this progress.
As always please reach out with any concerns.
Sue, Laura and Jon
