Who is looking forward to Stockport Pride 🏳️🌈 and the new play area at Woodbank opening?
Here's is a snapshot of what I've been up to this week as your councillor in Manor.
🟢 LGA North West Audit Chairs Forum, making sure we have what we need to hold this council to account and properly scrutinise how your money is spent
🟢 A number of deteriorating benches in the ward arranged for replacement
🟢 Started the work to get the park bins upsized in Woodbank so they stop overflowing between collections, and pressing officers for extra emptying in the meantime
🟢 Out meeting the council's arboricultural team, learning about the safety work on our trees and why certain decisions get taken
🟢 Worked with the police to get an abandoned vehicle moved from an unsafe spot
🟢 Worked with officers on plans for road safety improvements
🟢 Kept pushing to end the use of Glyphosate in our borough
🟢 Spent time with Bev Craig for Greater Manchester Mayor to talk about her pledges, how they will affect Manor Ward and the support our residents need
Not many of these make a good photo, so a word on why I spend my week this way.
Giving up an hour, or several, to improve the place we all live is something many people in our community do and it really does make a difference. I thank all of you.
As an elected councillor the main focus of our work should be strategic, working with officers to make sure that litter does not need picking, ensuring the processes are in place to routinely cut back growth and ensuring that the work of the council provides best value. The Liberal Democrat administration needs to be held to account to ensure Manor gets its fair share, that is what Councillor Laura Clingan, Manor Ward and I will always work towards.
That's the job, and that is what we will keep doing.
