Woodbank Memorial Park Play Area - Update 2
Woodbank Memorial Park Play Area - Update 2
Last night, your Manor Ward councillors, myself, Sue Glithero and Laura Clingan, took the Councillor Call for Action on the Woodbank Memorial Park Play Area upgrade to the Central Stockport Area Committee.
You can watch the highlights of the discussion above.
This is one of the strongest tools available to local councillors and it's rarely used, so that should tell you how seriously we've been taking this.
And it worked. Last night the committee agreed a strong resolution that calls on the administration to deliver this project on time, with accessible and inclusive play at the heart of it.
Here's what was confirmed:
🟢 A new multi play unit, three bay swing with accessible seating, nest basket seat and inclusive roundabout
🟢 New picnic benches and seating
🟢 Engagement with local schools including Lisburn Special School and Castle Hill
🟢 A target of completion before the school summer holidays in July
We also pushed for wheelchair accessible paths to the equipment and additional accessibility to be built into the play frame. We'll continue to press for these as the project progresses and will report back.
This is real progress, and we're pleased the council has now committed to a clear timeline. But let's be honest, this project has been fully funded since February 2024 and it took a formal Councillor Call for Action to get to this point. That should not have been necessary and if we had not have done this how long would we be waiting?
We will be holding the administration to every milestone. If they slip, we will bring it straight back to committee.
Our children have waited long enough.
