Yesterday ahead of the Bee Network Commitee meeting I joined friends from Unite the union and UNISON North West whoes members from TFGM are currently taking industrial action.
TFGM like all public sector employees have had years of below inflation pay rises and this has to stop. Speaking to workers yesterday I heard how some are resorting to food banks and how vital members of the team at our Stockport Interchange, for example, are unable to pay just the basic rent and bills on the salaries.
After adressing the march outside the townhall I was able raise the issue in the commitee to ensure that TFGM know that I and others will hold them to account over this, as is our duty.
We had a really interesting discussion with the Mayor on how our public transport has been the catalyst for the above average growth here in GM and how we are going to continue to use it as the backbone of our plans. None of that happens without the TFGM staff.
