Your Manor Labour Team have been working since 2019 to deliver a proper play area for Woodbank Park, and last night we got the confirmation we have been waiting for.

Councillor Clingan has led the charge to secure the funding, pulling together over £130,000 from multiple different funds and pots to make this happen. That is no small feat and it is entirely down to years of determined work on behalf of this community.

Since the final amount was allocated in February 2024 we have been pushing hard to get the work delivered. The Lib Dem Administration have had control of this council and have consistently failed to manage it effectively. Families in Manor Ward have been waiting for this play area whilst the Lib Dems dithered and delayed. We were not willing to just sit and wait, so a few weeks ago we raised a Councillor Call for Action, a formal process available to councillors to drive progress when the administration will not. It worked.

The work is now aiming to be completed before the school holidays, we will report back if this changes. The picture above shows the design from the supplier, which will be complemented by new swings, an accessible roundabout and other equipment alongside the climbing frame, zip line and existing pieces still in good condition on the park.

We have always stood up for this area. Anyone who has suddenly discovered a love for Woodbank Park a few weeks before an election is welcome to cheer this on, but the work was done long before they showed up.
